Stellenbosch Wine Bus

Hop On - Hop Off Experience

Stellenbosch Wine Bus is the preferred hop on, hop off wine tour service departing from Stellenbosch Information Centre and showcasing South Africa’s premier wine region.

Our philosophy is simple: we aim to make it easy, fun, safe and affordable to visit South Africa’s premier wine region. Our tours from Stellenbosch offer all the flexibility and enjoyment of driving yourself, without the risks of drinking and driving or the compromise of having a designated driver.

In a nutshell: Our comfortable bus collects from a convenient Stellenbosch CBD location in the morning (Stellenbosch Information Centre – 36 Market Street), then once in the region we follow a recurring timetable circuit that takes 55-65 minutes to complete, in which time we visit 5-6 of the selected wine farms, depending on your route of choice. We follow this same timetable every hour until it’s time to return to the city in the late afternoon (approximately 5 – 5:30pm).

Along the way you are free to hop on or off at any of the established stops, so that in a full day tour you are likely to see up to 4 wineries of your choosing, at your own pace, and independently from the other groups on the bus. This is how you tour your way

Routes

The Greater Simonsberg Route predominantly has south-westerly aspects and, because of the altitudes commonly higher than 200m, its generally open to the cool south-westerly summer breezes originating from False bay, some 25kms away. The wines from this area are mainly red, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz.

The Helderberg Route is home to some of the oldest wine farms in South Africa. This area stretches from Somerset West to the edge of Stellenbosch and in this area lies the Golden Triangle, a top wine growing area. The cooling effect of the moisture laden sea breezes from nearby False Bay, combined with the excellent soil structures, form ideal for growing noble varieties.
